History
FCT School for the blind children was established in 1991 within the government Teacher’s college Zuba. The school started in a two room apartment with two students and five staff members.
The first head teacher of the school was Mr. Ikpangetor Isaac Johnson. The motto of the school, slowly but surely for the blind, was formulated by Helen Nnal Balla and Mr. Odu Ibn Ibrahim. Though the education of the blind was expensive and slow, if supported, students would flourish with the sky as their limit. The school has functioned wonderfully with funding, staffing, infrastructure, and full support from the then primary education board, now FCT Universal Basic Education board, Abuja. A lot has changed since the establishment of the school, and now various scholarships and awards are registered by the school.
In January 2005, the school for the blind children Zuba – Abuja was officially commissioned by the then minister of education, Chief (Mrs.) Oby Ezekwesili (CFS) and was moved to its permanent and current site, Jabi Abuja No. 15 Audu Ogbe Street.
The FCT School for the blind children has successfully supported many students in graduating into secondary school since its establishment and has experienced a surge in enrollment. The school has recorded countless awards ranging from academics to psychomotor (skills) and nurturing the graduation of many professionals such as lawyers, teachers, journalists, authors, and civil servants.
